Who Pastors the Pastor?
Who brings you God's word each Sunday? The Pastor
Who prays prayers that really bring you so much comfort? The Pastor
Who makes God so real you can feel Him? Most likely the Pastor
Who often hears your concerns? God and the Pastor
Who visits the sick? the homebound? the dying? The Pastor and hopefully other members of the community of faith.
Who attends meetings to keep the church community run smoothly? The Pastor
Who speaks the words when we leave this earthly frame? The Pastor
Now I ask, who pastors the pastor?
God calls folks to be pastors and hopefully they have all the needed graces to be pastors. Currently our congregation is blessed with a bright young woman (41 IS young!)who brings the bible stories to life with her sermons (delivered without notes!). She writes amazing poetry which she sometimes includes in her BLOG. She keeps most of us in some order! The church is growing.
Michelle has a busy family. Her husband, Kelly, has a Ph.D. in communications and has taught at the university level. Currently, he is taking courses to get his certification to teach middle school kids. Seems to me that he would have had enough education to teach anyone! Not the case..at least in Minnesota! Their son, Zane, is 6 years old and in all-day kindergarten. Theo, who is 2 1/2, keeps things lively! Then there is the family dog, Duncan and Maggie, the cat. Duncan needs to have walks and Michelle regularly takes him for his "constitutional". This is a good time for her.
In addition to pastoring our 300+ member congregation, Michelle is currently President of CHUM, a community action organization consisting of 35 congregations --Churches United in Ministry. They have food shelves, emergency housing, transitional housing, a drop-in center that works with street people. It is a great ministry to the community and having her involved encourages us to be participants in the mission of CHUM.
It's a long way between Christmas and Easter. If pastors don't take time off somewhere during that spell, they surely need it right after Easter! They also need to take mini-breaks from the cares of pastoral caring. The Sunday after Easter we will have Holy Humor Sunday and then Michelle will take time off.
Just a reminder. We all can take on a bit of "member care" and lighten the pastor's load. And, by all means we need to pray for our pastor and her family everyday! May we all reflect God's grace.

Well said. I do what I can to lighten her load at work, hoping that will free up some time for her to recharge. She is one busy woman! Ssome days I'm in awe at how much she does.
Yes, she is a terrific pastor. I pray for her and her family and her ministry. I've said before, and I'll say it again, we are very fortunate to have her as our leader at HOPE UMC! Thank you Lord for her!
