Numbers

This morning the first numbers that came to mind were the EIGHT doubles, one triple and the GRAND SLAM home run hit by Torii Hunter last night in Seattle but then the news came on.

The horrific events at Virginia Tech are all over the news... that is 33 souls who are no longer with us including the shooter. Again the safety of our schools is in the forefront. BUT....yesterday on my way to Miller - Dwan I took a different route than I usually do and found myself on 4th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues East. I looked over to my left and a saw a sign enumerating the number of days our forces have been in Iraq, etc. The number that got to me was that over 3300 of our service folks have been killed there plus many thousands who have been injured. That 3300 has accumulated over the last several years and yet their deaths do not warrant the many hours of news-- they are more like an aside on our news programs. Is it because we expect death in a war? All of these deaths and injuries are senseless. Let us pray for survivors and their families! Let us work for peace on earth!
